Name: Charles Francis Xavier Door: Right (Trust no one) Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe* Canon Point: Post-Days of Future Past *A/N: The X-Men films and the specific timeline this version of Charles belongs to was not part of the MCU timeline until very recently. That being said, as a player I am familiar with all the relevant films and shows in the united canon. For simplicity's sake, this app will only mention canon points strictly from the X-Men (and Deadpool, where needed) movies. Age: 41 years old Appearance: Charles Xavier has a fit build; not muscular or lean, but just enough muscle definition to stay fit. Charles is 5' 8" in height, has soft brown hair, blue eyes, and a pale complexion. He's portrayed on film by James McAvoy. History: Charles Xavier's canon history (revised timeline) CR AU (Optional): N/A Personality: Positive Trait: Optimism. Charles has profound optimism for peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants. He believes that through sympathetic understanding, thorough education, and mutual cooperation, barriers can be broken down between humans and mutants, leading to mutual respect and acceptance. The Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters, where he educates young mutants on how to control their powers, is perhaps the biggest proof of his optimism. On a more personal note, Charles has endless respect and forgiveness for his longtime dearest friend, Erik Lensherr, who advocates fighting the humans over their discrimination against mutants. (Erik also caused his paraplegia.) Negative Trait: Arrogance. Charles' strong sense of moral certainty often comes across as arrogant. He is deeply convinced of the righteousness of his vision and methods, often countering or outright dismissing alternative viewpoints as misguided or counterproductive. This outlook is a big source of friction between him and Erik, who has a drastically opposing yet equally valid vision in achieving a peaceful future for mutantkind. Negative Trait: Manipulation. Given his telepathic abilities, Charles has, at times, resorted to manipulating people's thoughts and memories to achieve his goals. While he typically justifies these actions as being for the greater good, his willingness to alter minds can appear as though he believes he alone can determine the correct course of action. Charles also often withholds information from his allies, his closest friends, and later, from his students. He believes that certain truths are too dangerous or complex for others to handle, leading to mistrust and feelings of betrayal when the hidden information eventually comes to light. Negative Trait: Hypocrisy. Charles' actions often place him in ethical gray areas. His reckless use of the mutant-detecting device Cerebro, for instance, raises questions about privacy and the ethical implications of monitoring individuals without their knowledge. He continues to use the machine even after the Cuba incident, and though he encourages other mutants to respect one another's sense of agency, he constantly forces his will upon others without any hesitation. For example, he mind-controls many people during his visit to the CIA alone, and he makes it clear that he's done so multiple times before, going so far as to call it a 'magic trick.' Powers and Abilities: Mindreading — Xavier can read the thoughts of and gain access to other people's memories, emotions, and thoughts. This ability allows him to understand people on a profound level and anticipate their actions. Mind control — He can exert control over the minds of others, influencing their thoughts, decisions, and actions. He uses this power to make a CIA director to get into his car against his will, and notably, to keep Sebastian Shaw in place while Erik kills the man. Telepathic communication — Xavier can establish mental communication with others, allowing for conversations over long distances without the need for verbal speech. Illusions — He can create telepathic illusions, making people see, hear, and feel things that aren't there. These illusions can be used to deceive or distract enemies, such as making Russian soldiers see an empty vehicle that is actually full of CIA operatives during an infiltration mission. Memory manipulation — Xavier can alter, erase, or restore memories in the minds of others; for example, he wiped Moira's memory of the Cuba event, and later would seal Jean Grey's memories to protect her from her trauma. Mind scanning — He has the ability to scan large areas and populations to detect the presence of mutants or specific individuals, though with the use of Cerebro. (Cerebro is a device that amplifies his telepathic abilities, he can extend his reach globally.) He can also scan surface thoughts to passively gain information from other people without penetrating their mind. Mental barriers — Xavier can create mental shields to protect his own mind and the minds of others from telepathic intrusion or attack. These barriers can be incredibly strong, making it difficult for other telepaths to penetrate. Few telepaths, such as his protege Jean Grey, are powerful enough to penetrate his mental barriers. Psychic attacks — He can project his will on others to stun or incapacitate opponents. These attacks could disrupt neural pathways, leading to unconsciousness and, in other telepaths, pain. *Handicap: Charles is, at his canon point, a paraplegic who uses a serum to regain sensation and mobility from the waist down. The serum also neutralizes his mutant abilities. For RP purposes and because of the game setting, if it's acceptable for the mods, I'd like to ask for Charles to have control over his lower body again, but still need the use of a walking cane for support. This can also explain his drastic power capping; Charles could still reasonably read minds, but it would take him far greater effort to do so. There is already canon precedence for this, and as a player, I'm more than happy to accommodate OOC opt-outs for Charles' powers as well.
